Preparing for Worship: July 2

God Calls Us to Worship Him

Call to Worship

Worship Leader: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Trinity Hymn: “Wonderful, Merciful Savior”

Wonderful, merciful Savior

Precious Redeemer and Friend

Who would have thought that a Lamb

Could rescue the souls of men

Oh You rescue the souls of men

You are the One that we praise

You are the One we adore

You give the healing and grace

Our hearts always hunger for

Oh our hearts always hunger for

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper

Spirit we long to embrace

You offer hope when our hearts

Have hopelessly lost the way

Oh we hopelessly lost the way

Almighty, infinite Father

Faithfully loving Your own

Here in our weakness You find us

Falling before Your throne

Oh we're falling before Your throne

God Graciously Renews Us in Christ

Confession of Sin

Worship Leader: Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,

Congregation: have mercy upon us.

Congregation: have mercy upon us.

Worship Leader: Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,

Congregation: grant us peace.

Forgiveness of Sin Through Christ

Worship Leader: “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For He knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”

(Psalm 103:8-14)

Hymn of Assurance: “Great is Thy Faithfulness”

Great is Thy faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness

Morning by morning

New mercies I see

All I have needed

Thy hand hath provided

Great is Thy faithfulness

Lord unto me

Great is Thy faithfulness

O God my Father

There is no shadow

Of turning with Thee

Thou changest not

Thy compassions they fail not

As Thou hast been

Thou forever wilt be

Summer and winter

And springtime and harvest

Sun moon and stars

In their courses above

Join with all nature

In manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness

Mercy and love

Pardon for sin

And a peace that endureth

Thy own dear presence

To cheer and to guide

Strength for today

And bright hope for tomorrow

Blessings all mine

With ten thousand beside

Thanking God for What He Has Done

Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Be Thou My Vision”

Be Thou my vision

O Lord of my heart

Naught be all else to me

Save that Thou art

Thou my best thought

By day or by night

Waking or sleeping

Thy presence my light

Be Thou my wisdom

Be Thou my true Word

I ever with Thee

And Thou with me Lord

Thou my great Father

I Thy true son

Thou in me dwelling

And I with Thee one

Riches I heed not

Nor man's empty praise

Thou mine inheritance

Now and always

Thou and Thou only

Be first in my heart

High King of heaven

My treasure Thou art

O God be my everything, be my delight

Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied

High King of heaven

When vict'ry is won

May I reach heaven's joys

O bright heaven's Sun

Heart of my own heart

Whatever befall

Still be my vision

O Ruler of all

O God be my everything, be my delight

Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied

God Instructs Us Through His Word

Scripture Reading

Exodus 20

Leviticus 19

Deuteronomy 6

God Feeds and Nourishes Us through His Supper

Breaking Bread

Having, as we trust, been brought by Divine Grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to give up ourselves to Him, and having been baptized upon our profession of faith, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, relying on His gracious aid, solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with each other.

We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We will be slow to take offense and quick to reconcile. We will avoid gossip, false accusations and divisive words, knowing that they are destructive to Christian fellowship.

We will walk together in brotherly love, as become the members of a Christian church; exercise an affectionate care and watchfulness over each other and faithfully admonish and entreat one another as occasion may require.

We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together by worshipping with one another regularly, nor neglect to pray for ourselves and others.

We will endeavor to bring up such as may at any time be under our care, in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and by a pure and loving example to seek the salvation of our family and friends.

Pouring the Cup

We will rejoice at each other’s happiness and endeavor with tenderness and sympathy to bear each other’s burdens and sorrows.

We will seek, by Divine aid, to live carefully in the world, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, and remembering that, as we have been voluntarily buried by baptism and raised again from the symbolic grave, so there is on us a special obligation now to lead a new and holy life.

We will work together for the continuance of a faithful evangelical ministry in this church, as we sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines. We will contribute cheerfully, generously and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We will, when we move from this place, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.

God Blesses and Sends Us Out

Worship Leader: Now dismiss your servants, O Lord, in peace, according to your word: For our eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all the peoples, a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people.
